Slimming Teas

In today's modern society there seems to be more pressure than ever to be slim and achieve a figure typical of models and actresses. The general public are more susceptible than ever to marketing ploys aimed at those wanting to slim.

Manufacturers long ago realised the potential of this market and are now producing hundreds of aids directed at slimmers, claiming that their product will help shed the pounds. This is particularly true of slimming teas, as their herbal properties have been used for centuries for many different reasons, including supposedly helping people lose weight. Scientific studies have not proved whether teas can help weight loss and most medical experts will agree that healthy eating and regular exercise are the only ways to achieve reasonable weight loss and remain healthy.

Types Of Slimming Teas

There are many different teas on the market, each claiming to work in a different way. Some proclaim to suppress appetite and make the person feel less hungry, this is most often achieved by reducing blood sugars or by bloating the digestive tract. There are some that simply cause the body to rid excess water and toxins, but this is often achieved by inducing diarrhoea or frequent urination using components that act as either laxatives or diuretics. Whilst many people will benefit from flushing the toxins out of their system, and urinating is a reasonable method for doing so, as long as the person is drinking plenty of water or other clear fluids, to force bouts of diarrhoea is not a healthy way of losing fluids and products and can cause illness.

Some teas most usually of Chinese origins claim to contain an enzyme that helps increase the metabolism of some types of fats, though again, scientific studies have not proved this.

One of the biggest concerns regarding the use of slimming teas is the effects when taken in excess or in combination with each, and indeed the effects of the components of the tea when other medications are being taken. There are several studies investigating the effects of the drinking teas together and of the negative effects they can have with certain medications. Most of the teas contain a stimulant of some kind which can seriously compromise or accelerate many legitimate medications. There is also concern regarding the prospect of dehydration caused by the diuretic effects of the teas, which can lead to the body becoming depleted in many of the essential vitamins and minerals needed by many of the major organs.

There is no doubt that many people will benefit from increasing their intake of fluids, and that herbal teas, in moderation are definitely more preferable that fizzy drinks or other fluids high in sugars, and that some may indeed help to flush away toxins, but a person wanting to slim should remember that adopting a healthy attitude towards food and amending their diet as necessary is the safest way and most successful way of losing weight. No one should rely on chemicals, herbal remedies or otherwise to achieve weight loss.
