Is Coriander Juice Useful for Weight Reduction?
Q.
Is fresh coriander juice is useful for weight reduction?
A.
Coriander is a very fragrant and tasty herb. It is commonly used in Indian recipes and often used in salads, sauces and soups. With regards to drinking fresh coriander juice as a weight loss aid, it is probably not a good idea, especially if you are planning on using it everyday.
As rich as coriander is in taste, colour and aroma, there seems to be little nutritional value if you intend it to make up a regular part of your weight loss programme. Although coriander has a negligible amount of calories and no fat content, it has little content of any other substance unless very large volumes of it are consumed. Even the vitamins and minerals that it does contain are in small amounts and unless an awful lot is eaten or taken as a drink, it does not account for much of the recommended daily amounts.
It may be useful for very occasional use especially if you have had a heavy meal earlier in the day or the night before, or even if you are feeling a little unwell and don't think your digestive system could manage a full meal but it shouldn't be relied on as a meal replacement.
The types of shakes and juices that are available as part of a slimming programme have been nutritionally balanced and their content is deemed safe and healthy if used sensibly and as part of a calorie controlled diet. If you are planning to make your own juices it is probably better to use a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables mixed with water or milk as these will have far greater nutritional content than a juice that contains only one product. Coriander can be included in the juices, but should be part of a varied diet complete with all necessary components. The safest way to enjoy coriander is within sauces used for fresh fish and lean meat dishes along with herb salads an dressings, however if you are lacking in vitamins A, B and iron coriander juice may be helpful as a supplement to a healthy diet as it can help replace these deficiencies in combination with a regular diet.
