Xenical; Slimming; Pills; Calories;

There are several pills, capsules and supplements that can be purchased that have claimed to aid slimming, but there are also some more reliable drugs that are available on prescription that have been tested for safety and effectiveness which can be given by the doctor, in the treatment of obesity, once the person has been assessed.

What Exactly Is Xenical And How Does It Work?

Xenical is a fairly new drug that has been developed to help fight the increasing number of those who are obese. It works by preventing the digestion of up to 30% of fats that have been ingested. This fat is then passed through the digestive system and eliminated in the stools.It can only be given to those who are determined to slim and must be used sensibly as part of a calorie controlled diet and in combination with a regular exercise plan. Calories should be at least 1200 a day for women and up to 1500 a day for men. Doctors are only permitted to prescribe this medication to those who have been assessed and have a Body Mass Index of 30 or over.It can also help to lower cholesterol and the amount of fats in the blood known as triglycerides.

How Is It Taken?

Xenical pills come in a 120mg dose and should be taken with meals, or within an hour, that have a fat content., but only up to three times a day. It is recommended that at each meal, the maximum calorie intake derived from fat is 30%

Side-Effects And Risks

The biggest effect of this medication, though an expected part of the treatment and not essentially a side-effect is that it can alter bowel habits. As the non-digested fat is passed in the stools, the bowel movements can become very greasy, less solid and can be coloured. Many people have reported urgency for the toilet as another possible side-effect.Xenical has been approved for long term use and is safer than many other drugs as it does not affect the brain or nervous system and concentrates solely on the digestive tract.If accidental overdose occurs, seek medical advice as soon as possible to ensure no ill-effects can develop.

It is advised that a multi-vitamin supplement is taken daily as Xernical can also interfere with the absorption of many of the essential vitamins which may lead to ill health.It is not necessary to eat a diet with no fat content at all as fat makes up part of a balanced diet and is important for many of the body’s processes. As mentioned, it is advised that no more than 30% of the diet should be made up of fats.

Xenical is a prescription drug that aims to assist those diagnosed as obese in the slimming quest. It should only be used under the guidance of doctor and should be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise plan. It is in no way supposed to act as a substitute for food. Slimmers should aim to lose a maximum of around 10%of their body weight using this method of slimming.
